Subjects offered in the High School

GET - General Education and Training (Grade 7-9)


This curriculum covers grades 7, 8 and 9.


In Grade 7 the girls all take the following subjects:

•    First additional language - Afrikaans
•    Mathematics
•    Natural Sciences
•    History
•    Geography
•    Dramatic Art
•    Arts and Culture
•    Music
•    Computer Studies
•    PE (Physical Education)
•    LO (Life Orientation)
•    RE (Religious Education)
•    Media Skills
•    IsiZulu

In Grade 8 the girls all take the following subjects:


•    English

•    French
•    Arts and Culture
•    Visual Art
•    Music

•    PE (Physical Education)
•    LO (Life Orientation)

In Grade 9 the girls study all of the above subjects, but they have a choice of one of:

French or

EMS

At the end of Grade 9, after career guidance, a learner chooses her matriculation subjects and enters the FET Phase of the school.

FET - Further Education and Training (Grade 10-12)

This curriculum covers grades 10,11 and 12.

Learners must study 7 subjects, 4 of which are compulsory: English, Afrikaans, Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy and Life Orientation.

Thereafter 3 subjects are chosen, in our case from Life Science, Physical Science, Business Studies, French, Visual Art, Dramatic Arts, Geography, History and Computer Studies.

In addition, learners can take an 8th subject such as Advanced Programme Mathematics, Advanced Programme English or a second additional language (eg German, Zulu). These are taught outside of normal school hours and involve additional costs.

Assessment

Assessment consists of two components:
An-end-of-year examination will form 75 % of the total mark.
A portfolio compiled during the school year will form 25 % of the total mark.  

The Independent Examination Board (IEB) sets the Grade 12 external examinations.

Final Certificate

The qualification that learners will receive on successful completion of Grade 12 is the National Senior Certificate.
